It seems we’ve had a lot of sad news to report as of late, and today comes news that Canadian folksinger Kate McGarrigle has died of cancer at 63. McGarrigle was one half of the folk duo she performed with her sister, The McGarrigle Sisters. She was married to fellow musician Loudon Wainwright III (the two were divorced) and their children, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, have gone on to have musical success of their own. The McGarrigle Sisters had their big break in the 1970s, and had songs famously covered by Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, and Billy Bragg. McGarrigle had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
